Dairygold, Mallow, Co. Cork – €83.5m Milk Processing Plant
The new dairy processing plant integrates the operation of the site’s existing 5 tonne per hour Dryer operations with new facilities. In the coming years this will enable the Mallow site to produce a suite of dairy ingredient milk powders up to Infant Milk Formula standards.
The phase one investment included:
- New milk assembly and intake
- New standardisation and separation facilities
- New energy efficient evaporation system
- A new 7.5 tonne/hour multi-purpose Dryer
- New multi-format automated bag-off facilities
The project also provides the infrastructure to facilitate the installation of a second 7.5 tonne/hour Dryer by 2019 or earlier, depending on the speed of milk production scale up in the catchment area.
It brings the Mallow site back to an output of over 450 tonnes a day – a level last achieved when the site hosted the combined activities of milk powder, chocolate crumb and butter production.
The project generated 400 jobs on site at peak construction. Dairygold itself expects to employ an additional 115 people full time across its milk processing activities by 2020 as milk production expands.
Utilities Upgrade: Provision of a new MV ring to power the site (6 Substations) including all Schneider SM6 MV Swtichgear, Transformers, DC Trip Units, Remote Switching Stations and all associated cabling & containment.
Intake and Milk Processing: PLC, MCCs, VSDs and I/O Panel Installation, Containment, LV Distribution. Control; Profibus, ASI, Ethernet & SCADA Networks.
Dryer & Evaporator: installation of all PLCs, MCCs, VSD/VFD drives, pneumatic panels and airline, power & control cabling and containment, Profibus, ASI, Ethernet & SCADA Networks.
Powder Handling & Packing: installation of all power & control cabling and containment, PLCs, MCCs, VSD/VFD, and Ethernet Networks.
Waste Water Treatment: MV/LV Distribution, General Services, Lighting, Fire Alarm, Access Control, ICT, Process Control
